Prompt Engineers are earning impressive salaries: OpenAI has launched a free course to learn this sought-after profession

Discover the astonishing advancements in the field of artificial intelligence that we are witnessing, with the potential to significantly transform a wide range of industries. The renowned investment bank Goldman Sachs estimates that this trend will impact, in one way or another, around 300 million jobs. Some will disappear, while others will change to adapt.

The job market has started to demand talents with highly specific skills, and just like in other moments throughout history, new professions are emerging. This is precisely where “prompt engineers” come into play – individuals who can harness the full power of AI solutions, thanks to their ability to make highly targeted and specific requests to AI systems.

OpenAI offers a free course on prompt engineering

A clear example of the importance of fine-tuning prompts can be found in image generation through applications like Midjourney, DALL·E, or Stable Diffusion. The more specific our requests are, the better results we will achieve. This scenario also applies to developers who are looking to integrate large language models (GPT-3.5 and GPT-4) into application creation.

OpenAI and DeepLearning.AI have launched a course titled ChatGPT Prompt Engineering for Developers. “You’ll quickly develop skills that will enable you to learn how to innovate and create value in ways that were previously prohibitive in terms of costs, highly technical, or simply impossible,” says the course description on its website.

Enrollees will immerse themselves in 1.5 hours of instructional content guided in video format by Fulford (OpenAI) and Andrew Ng (DeepLearning.AI). Additionally, as we have seen, they will encounter code examples and even audio transcriptions. A positive aspect is that the course is aimed at beginner developers (although they should have a basic understanding of the Python programming language).

As for the application scenario of what is learned in the course, those in charge claim that it will provide guidance on best practices for swift prompt engineering and demonstrate how the API of large language models can be used to create apps for text summarization, information inference, idea expansion, and even the possibility of learning to create a customized chatbot.

The training, as mentioned, is free. Signing up is as simple as accessing the course profile on DeepLearning.AI, clicking on Learn for Free, and registering with an email address. It is worth noting, however, that the course is “free for a limited time.” At the time of publishing this article, no payment is required to take the course.
